Enjoy boating in any form? Get aboard : No boat needed, all welcome.
We invite you to our home waters of Matagorda Bay. Located midway between Galveston and Corpus Christi, we enjoy the best kept secret on the Texas coast. Open water sailing, excellent fishing, and some of the finest people you will ever find.
If you happen to be passing by the Matagorda jetties, or transiting the ICW, turn on in. Most of Matagorda Bay has 12' depths but watch for shoals extending far out from the banks. For a surprise free arrival into Palacios, intersect the Palacios channel below Marker R32 and follow the channel into Palacios. We look forward to seeing you!
Come on down for a visit!

Our home port of Palacios is a community of about 5,000 and the Shrimping Capital of Texas. Enter the Palacios Channel at Marker R32 and it is an easy entrance to the Port of Palacios and Serendipity Resort.
Port Lavaca and Nautical Landings Marina are located near the head of Lavaca Bay. From the ICW, proceed inbound in the Matagorda Ship Channel until you reach the preferred channel marker, green over red dayboard "PL" where the channel splits. Bear left into Port Lavaca Channel and pick up Green "1" - - at night flashing 2.5 sec. green. Proceed to Green #15 then bear left.. Keep the red triangular markers to your right and follow them into the Nautical Landings Marina.
Port O'Connor, known locally as POC, Port O'Connor lies at the mouth of the Matagorda Ship Channel and the ICW, POC is renowned as a sport fishing haven.
Army Hole - Matagorda Island Wildlife Refuge, accessible only by boat. The beaches are accessible only by foot or bicycle, as no motorized vehicles of any kind are allowed. You can also visit the historic Matagorda Lighthouse, the oldest operating lighthouse of the Texas coast. On the ICW approximately 4.5 nm west of Port O'Connor, take the marked channel to the southwest.
Colorado Locks and Matagorda - On the ICW at the Colorado River junction, the Colorado Locks provide flood control during flood events on the Colorado River. Contact the Lock operator "Colorado Locks" on Channel 10. On the east side of the locks is Matagorda Harbor, with slips, fuel, and a restaurant.
Nearby is the town of Matagorda, one of the oldest seaports in the state and now a recreational retreat.
We thank the following businesses, organizations and individuals who generously support the Cannonball Run Regatta and the Palacios community.
For many years the Palacios Yacht Club has hosted the Cannonball Run Sailing Regatta. This regatta is part of a state-wide circuit for youth sailors who compete for state and national recognition. This year's regatta is scheduled for August 17-18th and will be headquartered at the new Palacios Educational Pavilion.
We are fortunate to have these regattas interested in our bay for their contests and we anticipate that it will bring almost 100 sailors and their families to Palacios for the weekend. Last year's regatta brought almost $19,000 of economic benefit to the community and we supported our first two local Palacios entrants (this year we expect to have three local sailors).
Races take place all day Saturday, August 17th and half of the day Sunday, August 18th. We are looking for volunteers to help with on-shore (scorekeeping, setup, and meals) and on-water (safety and race committee boat) needs - no previous sailing experience is required. If you have a boat or are willing to help on the water during the races we especially need you!
If you are interested please contact Rick at (832)473-9852.
